Bread for Life is proud to name Heike Roth as the volunteer of the month for August. Heike has made a significant impact at Bread for Life throughout her 4 years of service beginning with summer lunch and now weekly inside our dining room.
What brought you to Bread for Life? I started at BFL in 2020. I was looking for a positive way to contribute to my community, especially during COVID.
What do you do currently at BFL? When I first started at BFL, I assisted in making sandwiches, packaging and handing out the meals for the summer lunch program. My responsibilities have evolved to helping the BFL crew prepare and package the meals that get delivered throughout the community, as well as for our clients that dine in each Monday.
Favorite BFL memory? There have been so many memorable and fun times. I must say that every Monday volunteering is a joy! We all respectfully work hand in hand (a real team effort) and know how to laugh it up too! I could not ask for a better environment and a group of dedicated and hard-working individuals to assist each week.
Impact volunteering has had on you. The biggest impact volunteering has had on me is how personally satisfying and rewarding it has been to see the positive and direct impact to so many individuals.
Advice to those thinking about volunteering. If you’re thinking about volunteering, give it a go! For me, it’s a great and rewarding way to give back.
