Photo caption: 10 clients were treated to haircuts, shaves, and massages at our personal care day.  Our stylists were Kayla from DPZ of Litchfield and Jan, an independent stylist from Southington.  Our masseuse was Toby from A Moment Away.  Also on hand for our special afternoon was Matt from Everyday Angels Foundation and Rodger Stotz and Chris Amosino from the Men and Boys’ Fund through the Main Street Community Foundation.  The Men and Boys’ Fund donated a grant to Bread for Life to purchase supplies for our personal care days.  Many thanks to all!

You know how great it feels when you get a good haircut. It changes your outlook and makes you feel so good about yourself and that impacts how you present yourself to others.

But the clients served by Bread for Life don’t have the opportunity for that good feeling you get when you take care of yourself. They just don’t have money for the extras like haircuts.

That’s when we had the idea to bring in hairstylists into Bread for Life. We were so fortunate to have many wonderful stylists willing to donate their time and talent to Bread for Life to give the gift of personal care to our clients on their day off.

Once a month on a Monday afternoon, our dining room is transformed into a beauty salon for our clients. They come in for haircuts, beard trims, manicures, and even chair massages!  These personal care days have made such a difference to our clients and we are so grateful to all the professional stylists, manicurists, and masseuse who have contributed their time and kindness to provide care to our clients.

We see how our clients are transformed by these special personal care days. But it is best told by one of our clients who said, “I have not had my beard trimmed down since I was 19 years old and it feels much lighter!”  His smile was visible and so much brighter than we had ever seen it when he said this.

Please consider making a contribution to Bread for Life’s annual appeal so that we can continue providing personal care days and all the other services. Contributions in any amount help the cause and support of our goal that no one goes hungry in Southington.  Donations may be mailed to Bread for Life, PO Box 925, Southington, CT 06489 or may be made online at
